Newsroom/news-Alliant Energy to Acquire

The Wisconsin utility company’s contract allows Geronimo Energy to continue development and acquire the Rock County Solar Project post-approvals

Minneapolis, MN (May 26, 2020) – Geronimo Energy (Geronimo), a National Grid company, and Alliant Energy announced today the sale of North Rock Solar (North Rock) in Rock County, Wisconsin to Alliant Energy. Geronimo Energy will continue development activities until regulatory approvals and other contractual commitments are complete, at which time Alliant Energy will acquire North Rock.

North Rock will produce 50 megawatts (MW) of electricity, enough to power approximately 12,000 Wisconsin homes, and will contribute to Alliant’s goal to build 1,000 MW of solar projects in Wisconsin by 2023. The 50 MW North Rock will be located in the town of Fulton, approximately 10 miles north of Janesville, and is estimated to have a footprint of 440 acres. The project is expected to begin construction in 2021, with anticipated completion in late 2022, and will bring positive economic benefits in the form of new tax revenue, local spending, and job creation to both local and state communities.

“As a midwestern-based U.S. renewable energy company, Geronimo Energy is proud to partner with Alliant Energy to bring additional clean energy to the Wisconsin electric grid,” stated David Reamer, President for Geronimo Energy. “As a farmer-friendly and community-focused company, we believe both our land partners and the local community in the Town of Fulton are in excellent hands with the Alliant Energy team at the helm of North Rock Solar.”

“We look forward to working with Geronimo Energy and Rock County as project development continues toward construction,” stated Ben Lipari, Director of Resource Development at Alliant Energy. “The future of renewable energy in Wisconsin is bright. This project is an investment in a community where we have a long history of partnership, supporting customers and furthering economic growth. Our solar projects initiate significant tax revenue, establish reliable income for landowners and create new, local construction jobs.”

This project sale is included in a 6-county, 675 MW solar announcement made by Alliant Energy earlier today in Wisconsin. Once operational, the energy from the six projects will be enough to power 175,000 homes per year. The 675 MW solar announcement is part of Alliant Energy’s Clean Energy Blueprint, which outlines their roadmap to accelerate renewable energy, while reducing carbon emissions.

Crocker Community Fund Established, Bringing Geronimo Energy’s Total Estimated Community Fund Donations to Over $9.6 Million Over 20 Years

The estimated $800,000 charitable fund’s board has been elected and is composed of local residents and landowners

Minneapolis, MN (August 13, 2020) – In celebration of the American Wind Energy Association’s
American Wind Week, Geronimo Energy (Geronimo), a National Grid company, announced today that it has established a local charitable giving board, named the Crocker Community Fund Board (the Fund), for the benefit of the communities connected to the Crocker Wind Farm (Crocker). Crocker is a 200 megawatt (MW) operational wind energy project located in Clark County, SD. Crocker has executed Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPA) with Walmart and Cargill, utilizes GE turbines, and was constructed by Wanzek Construction.

Crocker began operations in late 2019 and brings economic benefits to the local and state economies. At the peak of construction, Crocker had over 200 construction workers onsite and has since employed 10 full-time employees at its Operations and Maintenance building. Additionally, the project is estimated to produce $18 million in new tax revenue and $24 million in landowner payments during the first 20 years of operations.

Unique to Geronimo, its large-scale operating wind farms further benefit from a charitable fund called Community Funds. The contributions from Community Funds are above and beyond any tax revenue or other economic impacts from Geronimo’s projects and are meant as charitable donations to the local project host communities. To date, Geronimo has initiated thirteen wind farm Community Funds across the nation, resulting in a total commitment of over $9.6 million in charitable donations over the first 20 operational years of these projects.

In Clark County, the Crocker Community Fund will receive an estimated $40,000 per year for a period of 20 years, totaling approximately $800,000 in local charitable funding. The Fund board has been elected and is composed of local landowners in the project footprint, as well as Clark County residents. The Fund donations will be funded by Geronimo and dispersed by the newly elected board to support charitable causes within and near Crocker.

“As a member of the Crocker Community Fund Board, I am excited to see what we can do for our community over the next 20 years with the funds we will receive from Geronimo Energy,” stated Jody Obermeier, a Crocker Community Fund Board member and landowner within the Crocker Wind Farm. “We are in the set-up stages right now as a board and fund. The Crocker Community Fund is going to be a great asset to our small community, and as a board, we will see that the funds are used to have the greatest community impact.”

“We are a community-focused and farmer-friendly company, and our Community Funds are at the heart of this value system,” stated David Reamer, President for Geronimo Energy. “In addition to the economic benefits our projects offer, such as tax revenue and job creation, we are committed to giving back to the host communities where we develop wind farms. We’ve been working in the Clark County area for over a decade, and we couldn’t be more excited to see the Crocker Community Fund established to benefit our neighbors and friends.”

Geronimo Energy Contracts with Michigan-Based J. Ranck
to Build 40 MW Michigan Solar Portfolio

Portfolio has executed Power Purchase Agreements with Consumers Energy

Minneapolis, MN (June 11, 2020) – Geronimo Energy (Geronimo), a National Grid company, announced today the start of construction activities for two Michigan solar projects for which Consumers Energy (Consumers) previously executed Power Purchase Agreements (PPA). The projects, Bingham Solar (Bingham) and Temperance Solar (Temperance), are part of a solar portfolio called MiSolar Portfolio and are located in Clinton and Monroe counties, respectively. Both projects are expected to begin operations by the end of this year. Geronimo has contracted with Michigan-based Engineering, Construction, and Procurement (EPC) contractor, J. Ranck Electric, Inc. (JRE), to construct the projects.

“We look forward to furthering Geronimo’s commitment to the state of Michigan,” stated David Reamer, President for Geronimo Energy. “Solar projects like these are not possible without the
collective support of customers like Consumers, partners like J. Ranck, and local residents who live in the project communities. Together with these key stakeholders, we are excited to start construction and begin to provide the associated local benefits to the people in the great state of Michigan, such as new tax revenue, in-state spending, and job creation.”

Combined, the projects will produce 40 megawatts alternating current of solar energy and will generate enough power to power an estimated 8,000 homes. Together with its affiliated entities, Geronimo Energy will own and operate both solar projects, and Consumers Energy will purchase the energy they produce. Using the United States’ Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) greenhouse gas equivalencies calculator, the combined projects are estimated to offset carbon dioxide emissions by 50,000 metric tons annually.

“With these projects, we’ll put an estimated 120 Michigan construction workers on the job and further J. Ranck Electric’s role in growing our state’s renewable energy infrastructure,” JRE’s Business Development Director Scott Walker said. “We could not be more proud and excited to work with Consumers Energy and Geronimo to build these solar projects.”

Geronimo, which has successfully developed over 2,400 MW of wind and solar projects across the nation that are currently under construction or in operation, has a long history in the state of Michigan. Geronimo developed the operational Apple Blossom Wind Farm, a 100 MW project in Michigan’s thumb region, and has a broad development pipeline of renewable energy projects across the state, ranging from greenfield to advanced developments, in excess of 600 MW.

“Apple Blossom, developed by Geronimo Energy, is the largest supplier of PPA wind energy in our portfolio. We are encouraged to work with Geronimo on these solar projects in Clinton and Monroe counties, which will increase renewable energy in Michigan and build momentum to help us fulfill our Clean Energy Plan,” said Timothy Sparks, Vice President of Electric Grid Integration for Consumers Energy. “Consumers Energy along with clean energy developers are committed to working with our community neighbors to build a cleaner energy future for Michigan.”

“National Grid and Geronimo have a strong commitment to our communities, and we are excited to begin construction and bring the economic benefits of solar energy to Clinton and Monroe Counties,” stated Daniel Westerman, President, Distributed & Renewable Energy for National Grid. “The well-being of our employees, partners and community members is one of our many core values – and bringing lowcost, clean energy to the state of Michigan, while simultaneously providing local economic development to these project host communities, directly aligns with that principle.”

Geronimo was founded with deep roots in agriculture and an understanding and respect for farming practices. As such, Geronimo develops each of its projects with the goal that they will benefit the local area for generations to come. Geronimo is committed to providing each of its project host communities with the best information possible, prompt responsiveness, and expert advice. As a farmer-friendly company, community outreach is an important aspect of Geronimo’s process.

“Geronimo has been a pleasure to work with on their Bingham Solar project,” indicated Doug Riley, Clinton County Community Development Director. “They worked very cooperatively with the County throughout the permitting process to address our requirements and the needs of the local community. We certainly look forward to the completion of this key renewable energy project next year.”

“Geronimo worked closely with Erie Township on their application for the development of the
Temperance Solar Project,” commented Michael Demski, Township Building/Zoning Department Official for Erie Township. “We were pleased to work with a company that truly cares about the project’s host community and communicated openly throughout the entire planning and approval process.”
